Notes for Margaret "Maggie" Freeh
Maggie Freeh was born Margaretha Früh, the 19th of January, 1872 in Brown County, Ohio. When she was born, her parents had been settled in America for 15 years and had four other children. Her father was a successful farmer owning 150 acres. No doubt Maggie grew up helping with many of the farm chores especially with the vegitable garden, the butter making, and food preservation. Her family attended a small German Lutheran Church in Arnheim, Ohio. The church services were conducted in German because nearly all of the families came from the same area of Germany known as the Palatinate (located in the south of the modern German state of Rheinland-Pfaltz, just north of the French border). Many of them came from one of the many tiny villages surrounding the city of Pirmasens. So although they were far from their ancestral home, their community was made up of many uncles and aunts, cousins and second cousins, neighbors and friends who immigrated to the same area of Brown County, Ohio. Maggie married John Jacob Kiesewetter on the 3rd of August 1890. John Jacob had also been born in Brown County and attended the same church as Maggie. He was his father's eldest son, heir, and a farmer like his father. Maggie and John had a wonderful family of children. Franz Johann October 28, 1890-1918 Dec.13 Charles Edward June 18, 1892- 1982 Florence Eugene October 24,1894-Jan 6, 1895 Clarence Earl Jan. 28,1896-1968 Aug. 16 Vera Loretta March 17,1898-1980 Eva Anna August 17, 1900-1902 Oct. 29 But their time together was cut short when Maggie died of tuberculosis November 21, 1904 at the age of 32. Sadly, her children didn't remember much about her. She did lovely handiwork and made pillow cases with hand crocheted lace and embroidery. She had a spinning wheel. She liked beautiful things. -biography written and researched by her great granddaughter Linda Rawles with details as told to Linda by her mother and grandmother. rawles@usa.net
