Johannes Jacob Kiesewetter, the son of Joseph and Magdalena Kiesewetter, was born January 21, 1819 in Austria. At the age of 38 he came to America by sailing ship. He left Austria May 23, 1853 and landed in New York July 17, 1853. He was probably accompanied by his wife Christine Schubert, daughter Franciskah Romanda, and possibly his mother-in-law Rosalie Schubert. They settled in Maurystown, Ohio. In 1855 Johannes bought 46 acres in Brown County Ohio. He was declared a United Sates citizen May 31, 1859 in Brown Co. His first wife Christine died July 7, 1860 and is buried beside her mother Rosalie Schubert in the Biehn Family Cemetery.

Anna Barbara Schneider and her parents immigrated from the village of Hoheinod in the German state of Rheinland-Pfalz, just north of the French border).
Johannes and Anna Barbara lived in a German settlement and attended a Lutheran German speaking church. Johannes was a successful farmer. In 1880 Johannes owned 186 acres: 20 acres woodland, 10 acres hay, 25 acres indian corn, 20 acres oats, 20 acres wheat, and less than an acre of sorghum and tobacco, as well as pasture. Johannes had 4 horses, 4 milk cows, 17 other cattle, 7 sheep, 19 pigs, and 56 chickens and other poultry. Long after his death, Johannes was remembered in the community for his generous gifts of money to relatives Europe to pay for their passage to America.
During the Civil War, July 1863 his stable of horses at his homestead in Sardinia, Ohio was under threat of expropriation by raiding Confederate soldiers led by the notorious John Morgan. His wife let his horses loose so they couldn't be rounded up. The soldiers didn't get the horses, but did take all their available food.
